The practical effects in the film are the film's biggest strengths. Hatchet 3 is a horror film that employs CG effects in a lesser degree than other films. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets, which results in some really horrific scenes throughout the film.

The cast delivers a strong performance, with Kane Hodder being the most terrifying villain. The dialogue is a bit snarky and witty to be reminiscent of a classic 1980s slasher film at moments. There are some funny moments that stand out in all the heart-wrenching (click link) scenes.

Unfortunately, due to the small budget (1 million dollars) most locations were duplicates of earlier films. The boat house in Hatchet 2 was only used once and the rest of the footage feels like it's been reused from previous films. It can feel almost familiar to those who've seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was enjoyable although it was like the previous installments in the series. It provided lots of gory thrills as well as entertaining performances by the cast members.
